Palliative Care Program


The Bonnyville/Aspen Primary Care Network provides co-ordinated palliative care services to residents in the community of Bonnyville and the surrounding area.

The Palliative Care Program consists of a team of health professionals including the patient’s own family physician working to provide care to patients with an incurable illness and their families. All team members have extra training in this field. Referrals are made to the program by the patient’s family physician or other health care providers involved in his/her care.

Nurses from many different health care areas are involved with palliative care so patients will be seen in the location best suited to their individual needs and desires whether it be in the hospital or in their own home. The team stays involved with the care of the family after the patient is deceased by providing bereavement follow up and referrals if needed.

The physicians of Bonnyville and Aspen Regional Health are working together to provide the best health care for the residents of Bonnyville and the surrounding areas.
